Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered an increase in the compensation amount for the families of those who lost their lives in the recent tragic incident at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Karnataka: A horrific stampede in Bengaluru has sent shockwaves across Karnataka. Eleven people died and dozens were injured during an IPL victory celebration at the Chinnaswamy Stadium when a massive, unexpected crowd surged. Following this tragic event, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah decided to increase the compensation for the families of the deceased. The compensation, initially announced at ₹10 lakh per family, has been raised to ₹25 lakh.
The Severity of the Stampede and its Cause
The Chinnaswamy Stadium has a capacity of approximately 35,000 spectators, but on that day, an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 people gathered. This unexpectedly large crowd overwhelmed the security arrangements. People pushed and shoved to enter, leading to a stampede where many were crushed under the weight of the crowd. This painful incident has once again highlighted the issues of crowd management and security.
CM Siddaramaiah stated that the government and the cricket association did not anticipate such a massive turnout. He also mentioned that if the crowd had been in an open space like Vidhana Soudha, the situation might have been better, as managing a crowd there would have been easier. However, the situation inside the stadium became so dire that lives were lost.
Increased Compensation
The compensation for the families of the 11 people who died in this tragic incident has been set at ₹25 lakh. The initial announcement of ₹10 lakh has been more than doubled. This will provide financial assistance to the bereaved families and offer some solace during this difficult time.
The government is also bearing the cost of treatment for the injured. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar visited the hospital to check on the injured and inquired about their well-being. He appealed to the public to strictly adhere to safety regulations at future public events to prevent such incidents.
Order for Magisterial Inquiry
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered a magisterial inquiry to thoroughly investigate the incident. This inquiry will determine the causes of the stampede and ensure b action against those responsible. The CM stated that the inquiry report will be submitted to the government within 15 days. He also clarified that political pressure or statements will not influence the investigation, and a fair and impartial inquiry will be conducted.
The families who lost loved ones in the stampede are deeply shocked. Most of the deceased were young people who had come to celebrate their favorite team's victory. This tragic incident has devastated many families. Treatment for the injured is ongoing, and doctors are working diligently to improve their health.
