Following the Pulwama Terrorist Attack, Tourist Numbers in Kashmir Decline; Farooq Abdullah Urges Visitors to Return.
Jammu-Kashmir: The recent terrorist attack in Pulwama has dealt a severe blow to the tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir. The attack not only deterred potential tourists from visiting Kashmir's scenic beauty but also prompted many existing tourists to cut short their trips. Several cancelled bookings and departures resulted in significant losses for local residents, particularly taxi drivers, hoteliers, and small businesses associated with tourism.
Farooq Abdullah's Emotional Appeal
Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and leader of the National Conference, has made a heartfelt appeal to tourists during this crisis. He stated, "The people of Kashmir feel incomplete without tourists. We were expecting millions of tourists this year, but circumstances have changed. Those who kill innocent people don't consider the livelihoods they destroy. We earn our living by showcasing God's beautiful creation. We are all saddened, but we will not be defeated. Please come back, Kashmir awaits you. And not just us, Lord Shiva (Bholenath) is also waiting for you, as the Amarnath Yatra is about to begin."
Significance of the Amarnath Yatra and Lord Shiva's Blessing
Millions of devotees visit Kashmir annually for the Amarnath Yatra, a pilgrimage of immense religious and cultural significance. Farooq Abdullah reminded tourists that this is a particularly auspicious time to seek Lord Shiva's blessings. The Amarnath Yatra is not merely a religious pilgrimage; it also offers an opportunity to experience Kashmir's culture and hospitality firsthand.
India's Strong Response to Terrorism
Following the Pulwama attack, the Indian government launched a b counter-terrorism operation. The army was given full operational freedom, launching strikes on numerous Pakistani terrorist bases, eliminating over 100 terrorists. Furthermore, when Pakistan attempted attacks using drones and missiles, the Indian air defense system successfully thwarted these attempts. The Indian army's retaliatory actions resulted in the destruction of several key Pakistani airbases, forcing Pakistan to request a ceasefire.
