Rahul Gandhi Accuses Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma of Corruption, Sparks Retaliation

Rahul Gandhi, during his Assam visit, accused CM Himanta Biswa Sarma of corruption and vowed to send him to jail. Sarma retaliated by mentioning Rahul's bail status.

Rahul vs Hemant: Addressing party workers in Chaygaon, Assam, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the central government. He stated that the state government was mired in corruption and that the Chief Minister would have to answer to the people one day. Rahul Gandhi claimed that Himanta Biswa Sarma would go to jail and that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah would not be able to save him.

Called the Chief Minister a 'Fearful King'

Targeting CM Sarma, Rahul Gandhi said that the Assam Chief Minister considers himself a king. He stated, "When you hear his voice or look into his eyes, fear is evident. He knows that one day he will have to go to jail. The people of Assam will hold him accountable for his corruption one day."

'Modi-Shah will also not be able to save' - Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi further stated that the policies of the BJP government were harming the country. He claimed that what he had said earlier on issues like Covid, demonetization, and the flawed GST had come true. He now says that Himanta Biswa Sarma will go to jail, and this time too, his claim will be proven correct.

He said, "The Assam Chief Minister is continuously stealing land. Sometimes in the name of solar parks, sometimes under the guise of resorts. Every child in Assam knows this. When the time comes, the people of Assam will teach him a lesson."

Himanta Biswa Sarma's sharp response

In response to Rahul Gandhi's allegations, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma retaliated on the social media platform X. He said that Rahul Gandhi himself was out on bail in several cases and was talking about sending others to jail. He sarcastically wrote, "Rahul Gandhi forgets that he himself is on bail in several criminal cases registered across the country. My best wishes are with him. Enjoy the hospitality of Assam."

Mention of a statement made in a closed-door meeting

Sarma alleged that Rahul Gandhi had said in a closed-door Congress meeting that he would send Himanta Biswa Sarma to jail. He said that this statement reflects Rahul Gandhi's mindset and shows that he would engage in a politics of revenge as soon as he comes to power.

Attack regarding voter lists in Bihar

Rahul Gandhi also targeted the Election Commission and the BJP in Bihar. He said that a new voter list was being prepared in Bihar, and lakhs of poor people, laborers, farmers, and supporters of opposition parties were being removed from it. He alleged that an attempt would be made to repeat the same in Assam.

He said, "We are protesting against this in Bihar, and we will not let this happen in Assam either. The BJP is trying to destroy democracy in collaboration with the Election Commission, but we will not let this happen."
