Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has once again found himself at the center of a political controversy. This time, the issue revolves around one of his T-shirts, which has drawn b objections from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena.

New Delhi: Comedian Kunal Kamra has landed in controversy due to a new T-shirt. He shared a photo on the social media platform X, where his T-shirt allegedly attempts to mock the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Following the emergence of this post, the BJP was enraged and issued a stern warning to Kamra. BJP leaders have bly objected to the post, deeming it offensive and provocative.

Meanwhile, as the controversy escalated, Kunal Kamra clarified on social media that the picture referencing the RSS was not taken in a comedy club.

Controversy Ignited by Social Media Post

Kunal Kamra recently shared a picture on his X account, in which he is seen wearing a T-shirt with an image of a dog, allegedly being associated with the RSS. As soon as the post appeared, it quickly went viral, triggering a series of political reactions. BJP leaders have called it a deliberate insult.

Kamra later clarified that the location where the picture was taken was not a comedy club. However, his clarification only intensified the controversy instead of defusing it.

BJP Warns of Police Action

Chandrashekhar Bawankule, a minister in the Maharashtra government and a senior BJP leader, took a stern stance on the matter, stating that police action would be taken against those who share objectionable content on social media. He clearly stated that any individual who posts content that offends public sentiment is bound to face legal action.

Bawankule said, “Kunal Kamra’s post is not only objectionable but also intentionally designed to spread tension in society. The police should act strictly in such cases.”

Shiv Sena Also Launches Sharp Attack

Shiv Sena, the BJP's ally, has also adopted a tough stance on this controversy. Party cabinet minister Sanjay Shirsat issued a warning, stating that such actions should be met with a b response. He mentioned that Kunal Kamra has previously made remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and now he has had the “audacity” to directly target the RSS.

According to Shirsat, the RSS is not a mere organization; it is connected with the sentiments of millions of volunteers. Such remarks cannot be tolerated. Following this entire controversy, social media appears divided into two camps. One section is supporting Kunal Kamra's freedom of expression, while the other is calling it an act that incites religious and political sentiments. Many users also questioned whether it is appropriate to insult an institution under the guise of humor.

This is not the first time Kunal Kamra has been embroiled in a political controversy. In March 2024, he also faced backlash when he satirized the political career of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during one of his live shows. He had made a political comment by changing the lyrics of a popular Hindi film song. Angered by this comment, Shiv Sena workers vandalized the Habitat Comedy Club and its associated hotel in Khar, Mumbai.
