A 13-kilometer-long elevated flyover has been proposed in Lucknow to connect the old and new city. It will run from Agra Road to Kalidas Marg, reducing travel time to 15-20 minutes. The estimated cost of the project is ₹2,270 crore, and it will help reduce traffic congestion in the city.
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation has proposed a 13-kilometer-long elevated flyover to connect the old and new city in Lucknow. This four-lane flyover will connect Dr. Shakuntala Devi Mishra University on Agra Road to Kalidas Marg. Officials claim that this will reduce travel time on congested routes from over an hour to 15-20 minutes. The estimated cost of the project is ₹2,270 crore, and it will reduce traffic congestion in the city by connecting traffic-affected areas such as Rajajipuram, Takrohi, Alambagh, Manak Nagar, and Chowk to Hazratganj, Gomti Nagar, and Cantt.
Benefits of the Project
The main objective of this four-lane flyover is to provide better connectivity between the old and new city of Lucknow. It is planned to connect traffic-affected areas like Rajajipuram, Takrohi, Alambagh, Manak Nagar, and Chowk to major urban centers like Hazratganj, Gomti Nagar, and Cantt.
Officials claim that after the flyover is built, travel time on this route, which takes about an hour in traffic, will be reduced to 15 to 20 minutes. This project will greatly help in streamlining the city's daily traffic.
Helpful in Reducing Traffic Congestion
The estimated cost of this elevated flyover is said to be ₹2,270 crore. It will also help reduce traffic congestion on several important routes in Lucknow. This is not the first time that such a plan has been proposed.
Two years ago, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation proposed building an eight-kilometer-long, three-lane elevated road from Rajajipuram to Kalidas Marg, with an estimated cost of ₹778 crore. However, that plan did not progress beyond the planning stage.
Public Demand and Administration's Initiative
According to reports, this new proposal has been prepared following continuous demands from local representatives and citizens. Officials say that the flyover will help improve traffic conditions in several areas, including Balaganj Road, Para, Hardoi Road, and Rajajipuram. In addition, pressure is expected to decrease on main routes like Charbagh and Cantt.
Construction Process and Timeline
According to the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation, the construction process will begin after the project receives approval from the state government. The proposed flyover will be built over the Hyder Canal and will utilize modern engineering techniques. After the flyover is built, not only will travel time be reduced, but the flow of traffic in the city will also improve.
Relief in Traffic-Affected Areas
After the completion of this project, there will be a significant reduction in jams and congestion in areas such as Rajajipuram, Takrohi, Alambagh, Manak Nagar, and Chowk. Traveling between the old and new city will be easier. Officials say that this flyover is extremely important in terms of the city's development plans and the convenience of citizens.
