Central Government Approves Lucknow Metro Phase-1B. 12 Stations Will Be Built on the New 11-Kilometer Route. This Expansion Will Improve Connectivity and Reduce Traffic in the Historic Areas of Old Lucknow.
UP: There's big news for the expansion of the Lucknow Metro. The Modi Cabinet of the Central Government has approved Phase-1B. Under this new scheme, Old Lucknow will also be connected to the metro service. This expansion of Phase-1B will be approximately 11 kilometers long, with 12 new stations being built. This decision will provide better connectivity and improved travel options for the people of the city.
New Route and Stations
This new route includes major and historic areas such as Aminabad, Chowk, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj, KGMU, Imambara, and Rumi Gate. These areas are located in the old part of Lucknow, where metro service had not yet reached. This expansion will not only increase travel convenience but will also significantly reduce traffic problems. A total of 12 stations will be built on this 11-kilometer route.
Budget and Financial Assistance for the Project
The Central Government has released a total of ₹5,801 crore for this project. This amount will be spent on the construction and operation of Phase-1B. With the financial assistance received, the project is expected to be completed on time and with better quality. The government considers this project a significant step for the development of the city.
Statement by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh
Lucknow MP and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has described this approval as a major gift for Lucknow. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government for this decision. He said that this metro expansion will not only reduce the problem of traffic but will also help in connecting the cultural and historical heritage of the city.
The metro service in Lucknow has already made travel simpler and safer for people. After Phase-1B, the metro will now reach many parts of the old city as well. This will particularly benefit those who commute daily. In addition, this project will also help in improving the air quality of the city as more people will use public transport.
Improvement in Travel and Traffic Management
The problem of traffic in Old Lucknow is quite old. Narrow roads, congestion, and an increase in the number of vehicles have made traffic jams a common occurrence. With the arrival of the metro, people will get a better public transport option, which will reduce the number of private vehicles. The direct benefit of this will be seen in traffic management and road safety.
Project Timeline and Future Plans
The government has said that the construction of this Phase-1B will be completed as soon as possible. Considering the project timeline, it is expected that metro service will start in the old parts of Lucknow in the next few years. In addition, there are plans to connect more routes in the future so that the metro reaches the entire city.
