The recently exposed high-profile drugs network case in Madhya Pradesh's capital has stirred up a political storm. Amidst the investigation into the drug racket linked to Yasin Ahmed 'Machli', the kingpin of the 'Machli Gang', the BJP has also suffered a setback. Shaharyar Ahmed alias Sheru, the uncle of gang leader Yasin, has resigned from the post of District President of the BJP Bhopal Minority Front, taking moral responsibility.
Drugs Case Cited as Damaging Party Image
In his resignation letter, Shaharyar Ahmed wrote that he has been loyal to the party for a long time and will continue to be so, but the recent registration of a criminal case by Bhopal Police, in which a member of his elder brother's family's name has surfaced, is affecting the party's image. He said that the matter is constantly in the headlines in the media and it may also affect the party's reputation.
Shaharyar clarified that he himself is not involved in any illegal or criminal activity, but as a party worker, this situation is unbearable for him. In such a situation, he has decided to step down from the post so that the dignity of the party is maintained. He requested that his resignation be accepted.
'Machli Gang' Network and Another Arrest
The Bhopal Police Crime Branch recently busted a high-profile drugs racket. Yasin Ahmed 'Machli' is said to be the leader of this network, who presented himself as a video jockey but was actually a major face of drug smuggling. Police investigation revealed that Yasin's network was spread to prominent clubs, bars and restaurants in Bhopal. He supplied MD drugs, cocaine and charas.
Yasin was about to organize a big party on August 2nd, which he had also promoted on his social media accounts. However, police arrested him before that. It is alleged that he used to give drugs to girls for free in high-profile parties at first, and then collect hefty amounts from them when they got addicted.
In this case, police have arrested another close associate of Yasin, Anshul Singh alias Bhuri. Anshul is the son of a former Congress councilor and several criminal cases are already registered against him.
Political Impact and Upcoming Questions
The political impact of this entire case is also being seen. On one hand, BJP leader Shaharyar Ahmed has had to leave his post, while on the other hand, the son of a former Congress councilor has been found to be involved in this network. In such a situation, with the names of families related to leaders of both major parties coming to the fore, political rhetoric is expected to intensify.
Currently, the police are engaged in connecting the links of the entire drug network and are looking for other potential accused. This case has made it clear how deeply the web of intoxication is spread even in a city like Bhopal, and how socially and politically influential the faces involved in it are.
