Doctors at Patna AIIMS are on strike today. OPD and emergency services are conditionally closed. The strike was announced in protest against the attack by MLA Chetan Anand and his security personnel.
Patna AIIMS: Doctors at Patna AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna) are on a one-day strike on Friday. The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) announced this strike on Thursday night. During the strike, the hospital's OPD (Outpatient Department) and emergency services will also be closed. This will directly affect hundreds of patients and their families who come to AIIMS for treatment.
Reason for the strike: Misconduct by MLA and security personnel
The main reason for this doctors' strike is a very serious incident. According to the RDA, MLA Chetan Anand from Shivhar, Bihar, his wife Dr. Ayushi Singh, and their security personnel forcibly entered the AIIMS premises. During this, there was a scuffle with the security personnel and doctors were threatened with death. The RDA has also claimed that weapons were brandished in the hospital premises and doctors were intimidated.
Allegation of brandishing weapons in the hospital premises
The incident took place in the trauma center of AIIMS, where the MLA and his security personnel forcibly entered. Doctors allege that the MLA ignored the security arrangements and violated the hospital rules. Moreover, his security personnel entered with weapons and tried to abuse and threaten the resident doctors.
NAFORD's support
NAFORD (National Association of Resident Doctors) has come out in support of the doctors. NAFORD posted on social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) stating that they stand with the doctors of Patna AIIMS. They demanded an FIR, increased security in hospitals, and the enactment of a law for the safety of doctors at the national level. NAFORD wrote that an attack on doctors is an attack on the healthcare system and it will not be tolerated.
Police registered a case
After the incident, the AIIMS administration has registered a case against MLA Chetan Anand, his wife Dr. Ayushi Singh, and two security personnel at the Phulwari Sharif police station. The police have registered an FIR and started investigating the matter. Taking this matter seriously, the police team has started collecting evidence from the hospital premises.
Services closed, patients troubled
With the strike beginning at 9 am on Friday, the OPD and emergency services of AIIMS have been affected. Many patients reached the hospital for treatment but had to return. The hospital administration has not yet made any alternative arrangements to restore services. Patients and attendants are facing heavy difficulties.
Doctors' demand
The main demand of the Resident Doctors Association is that security arrangements in the hospital premises should be strengthened. Also, strict action should be taken against MLA Chetan Anand and his security personnel. The doctors say that if strict and prompt action is not taken against the culprits, the strike may be extended further.
