Maharashtra’s Mahayuti Alliance Strengthened as Fadnavis and Shinde Hold Extensive Meeting

Mumbai: In a move to quell speculation surrounding the upcoming municipal elections in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde held a nearly ninety-minute closed-door meeting on Monday evening. During the meeting, the leaders discussed a unified approach to contesting the elections and reached a consensus to prevent any potential maneuvering or realignment within the Mahayuti (Grand Alliance) coalition.

The Shiv Sena, in a formal statement, indicated that leaders from both parties engaged in constructive dialogue regarding the Mahayuti’s banner under which they will jointly contest the upcoming municipal elections. Local-level discussions will commence over the next two to three days to finalize seat allocations and other electoral details for each municipal corporation.

Attendees of the Meeting

Present at the meeting were Chief Minister Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Shinde, along with State BJP President Chandrasekhar Bawankule and senior Shiv Sena leader Ravindra Chavan. The primary objective of the meeting was to bolster the Mahayuti alliance in the upcoming municipal elections and finalize preparations at the local level.

During the meeting, it was explicitly stated by the BJP and Shinde Sena that no allied party would act against the decisions of the coalition. Both sides pledged to maintain unity in the election and eliminate any political confusion.

Aditya Thackeray’s Remark

The meeting took place following a recent comment by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray, who alleged that a member of the Mahayuti alliance had more than 22 MLAs close to Chief Minister Fadnavis and were prepared to switch allegiance at any time. This was subtly directed towards the Shinde Sena faction led by Thackeray, who claimed that one party contained two factions, with 22 MLAs working on the instructions of the Chief Minister.

Following this remark, speculation intensified within the political landscape, and the meeting was considered significant in this context. Fadnavis clarified that the BJP does not engage in such political maneuvering and that the Mahayuti alliance would become even ber in the future.

Fadnavis’s Assurance

Following the meeting, Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that Shinde Sena is a reliable ally and the true Shiv Sena. He emphasized that the BJP and Shinde Sena would always stand together and further strengthen the alliance in the future. Fadnavis also affirmed that the BJP never engages in political games that could weaken relationships within the coalition.

Strategy for Cooperation in Municipal Elections

According to the Shiv Sena’s statement, local-level discussions will begin over the next two to three days to discuss seat allocations and finalize the final list of candidates for each municipal corporation. It was decided that both sides will work together to prevent any manipulation or disputes.

Emphasis will be placed on maintaining transparency in all policies of the alliance and the selection of candidates during this process. This will ensure the unity of the Mahayuti in the election and enable both parties to firmly consolidate their voter base.
