66 Mahayuti Councillors Elected Unopposed. MNS Files Petition in Bombay High Court, Alleging Victory Achieved Through Money and Pressure. The Court Will Hear the Petition Today.

Mumbai: The unopposed victory of 66 councillors from the Mahayuti alliance in the Maharashtra municipal elections is now likely to face legal challenges. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has decided to file a petition in the Bombay High Court regarding this matter. MNS leader Avinash Jadhav alleged that this victory was achieved through money and that crores of rupees were offered to opposing candidates to withdraw their nominations.

MNS Accusations Regarding the Victory of 66 Councillors

MNS leader Avinash Jadhav stated that money played a significant role in the victory of the 66 councillors who were elected unopposed in the municipal elections. He explained that opposing candidates were asked to withdraw their nominations by offering them between 5 to 8 crore rupees. According to Jadhav, pressure was also exerted on some candidates, and they have evidence to support this claim.

Jadhav also stated that if the court hears the case, it could be proven that the unopposed victory of the Mahayuti councillors was not fair. He believes that the spirit of the public and democracy has been compromised, and such cases should be taken seriously.

Figures for Unopposed Candidates from Mahayuti

A total of 68 candidates from the Mahayuti alliance were elected unopposed in the municipal elections. This includes 44 from the BJP, 22 from the Shinde Sena, and 2 from the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction). This unopposed victory demonstrates the Mahayuti alliance’s reputation and power in Maharashtra politics, but the MNS’s allegations are making it controversial.

Challenge to the Thackeray Brothers in the BMC Elections

Meanwhile, the Thackeray brothers are challenging the Mahayuti alliance in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray have come together on a single platform to directly confront the Mahayuti alliance. In this election, there are 87 seats where candidates from the Shinde Sena and the Thackeray brothers are facing each other. Most of these seats are in Marathi-speaking areas, which are considered politically significant.

A total of approximately 1,700 candidates are contesting for the 227 seats in Mumbai. The main issues in the election are ‘property tax waivers’, schemes like ‘Ladli Behna’, and promises related to local development. Voters will base their decisions on these issues to determine which party will dominate the city.
