Mahoba: A serious case of cyber fraud has come to light in Mahoba district, Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Saurabh Seth, a dentist from here, became a victim of fraud exceeding 97 lakh 39 thousand 492 rupees, enticed by the lure of high returns in online trading. The fraudsters first gained his trust by showing excellent returns on small investments and then, after getting him to invest a large sum, abruptly cut off contact.

Dr. Saurabh Seth Falls Victim to Cyber Fraud

Dr. Saurabh Seth, who runs a dental clinic at the district headquarters, received an investment proposal for online trading via WhatsApp on March 24, 2025. He was told that he would get high profits with low investment. He created an ID on a website named SWAubrey.com and initially invested 10 thousand rupees.

Within a few days, his money grew to 15 thousand rupees. Seeing this, Dr. Seth became convinced that the platform was reliable. He then gradually increased his investment to 39 thousand, 37 thousand, and then up to one lakh rupees, respectively. Each time, the website showed excellent returns, encouraging him to invest more.

Online Fraud Involving Lakhs of Rupees in Investment

In the months of April and May, Dr. Seth invested a total of 97 lakh 39 thousand 492 rupees into three different bank accounts. This included large sums such as 14 lakh 42 thousand 500 rupees, 27 lakh rupees, 36 lakh 10 thousand 992 rupees, and 15 lakh rupees. Each time, the website showed good interest returns on the investments.

However, from August 29, 2025, the fraudsters' mobile number became unreachable. When Dr. Seth tried to transfer his investment to his bank account, the amount did not transfer. It was then that he realized he had fallen victim to a prolonged fraud.

Report Filed with Cyber Crime Police

Upon realizing the cyber fraud, Dr. Seth immediately filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station. Station House Officer Fahim Akhtar stated that based on the complaint, a report has been registered and an investigation into the matter has begun. He added that the cyber crime team is now investigating the website and the associated bank accounts.

Officials also noted that in such online trading frauds, fraudsters typically gain the victim's trust by showing excellent returns on initial small investments. Subsequently, after getting them to invest large sums, they abruptly cut off communication.
