A nikah ceremony in Meerut turned violent after a dispute between two groups escalated into stone pelting and firing, with a video of the incident also surfacing.
According to information, tensions had already been prevailing between the two sides over the nikah. During the ceremony, an argument broke out over an issue and quickly escalated into a heated confrontation. Both groups soon came face to face, and the situation spiralled out of control.
Eyewitnesses said the clash began with fistfights but soon turned violent, with both sides pelting stones at each other. Reports also indicate that some individuals resorted to firing, triggering panic in the area. Nearby residents were seen running to safety.
Amid the incident, another development was reported. The brother of a leader associated with the Bahujan Samaj Party is said to have died of a heart attack during the tense situation. The family is in mourning following the incident.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and attempted to bring the situation under control. Both groups were separated, and additional forces have been deployed in the area to prevent further escalation. Officials said an investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to identify the accused based on video footage.
Local residents said the violence could have been avoided if the dispute had been resolved in time. Police stated that strict action will be taken against those involved in stone pelting and firing, adding that no one who took the law into their own hands will be spared.
