New Delhi: A meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was held in New Delhi on Tuesday, during which the alliance's Vice-Presidential candidate, CP Radhakrishnan, was honored. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised CP Radhakrishnan's public life and his work, describing him as an ideal leader for the country. He appealed to all opposition and allied parties to elect Radhakrishnan unopposed for the post of Vice President, so that all political parties send a message of unity for this high office.
In his address, PM Modi also criticized the country's first Prime Minister, Pandit Nehru, mentioning a crucial historical matter, namely the Indus Waters Treaty, conveying the message that a clear vision is necessary on issues of national interest.
Appeal to support CP Radhakrishnan
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi honored NDA's Vice-Presidential candidate, CP Radhakrishnan. Praising Radhakrishnan's public life, he appealed to all parties to elect him unopposed for the post of Vice President. PM Modi said that Radhakrishnan's life has been simple, fair, and free from controversies, and his presence in Parliament will help maintain balance.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, while interacting with the media, said that Radhakrishnan's election to the post of Vice President would be a matter of joy for the entire country. He said that the BJP-led NDA has a majority in Parliament, so Radhakrishnan can easily win the Vice-Presidential election.
Pandit Nehru and the Indus Waters Treaty
Prime Minister Modi said in his address that the then Prime Minister Pandit Nehru did not take the country's Parliament and his Cabinet into confidence while signing the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan. PM Modi said, Pandit Nehru burnished his image at the cost of the country's interest and allowed Pakistan to use more than 80 percent of India's water.
PM Modi stated that Nehru had told one of his associates that this agreement would help resolve other issues and disputes between India and Pakistan, but in reality, nothing of the sort happened. He said that his government is correcting the sins that happened during the previous regime. Along with this, PM Modi mentioned the central government's temporary suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty after the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack. This step was taken keeping in mind the country's water security and national interest.
Mention of Economic Achievements
Prime Minister Modi also mentioned S&P Global Ratings' recent decision in his address. The rating agency has upgraded India's long-term sovereign credit rating. PM Modi said that this decision reflects the country's b economy and investment attraction. He said that the upgraded rating will increase foreign investment in the country and accelerate the pace of economic development.
In the NDA meeting, PM Modi appealed to all political parties to support CP Radhakrishnan. Radhakrishnan may file his nomination for the post of Vice President on Wednesday. Due to the NDA's majority in Parliament, it is believed that Radhakrishnan will win unopposed.
