Over 1.2 Million Candidates Succeed in NEET UG 2025 Exam; Focus Shifts to Counseling

The NEET UG 2025 results have been declared, and lakhs of successful candidates are now awaiting the counseling schedule and details of state-wise seats. Students from Haryana, in particular, are eager to know the minimum score required for securing an MBBS seat in government medical colleges. This report will detail the total number of government and private medical seats available in Haryana, the likely cutoff score for government colleges under the state quota, and the counseling process outline.

Record Performance in NEET This Year

A record number of over 2.2 million students participated in the NEET UG 2025 exam, with approximately 1.236 million passing. The exam, conducted on May 5th across the country in pen-and-paper mode, was available in 13 languages. The number of top scorers this year also exceeded previous years; reports indicate that 73 students scored above 650 marks. This is expected to impact the cutoff scores, with competition for top medical colleges becoming even more intense.

Total Number of Medical Colleges in Haryana

Haryana currently has 13 medical colleges, including 7 government, 5 private, and 1 deemed university. Prominent government medical colleges include:

  • Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak
  • Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College, Karnal
  • Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College, Nalhar
  • Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College, Faridabad
  • Bhupinder Singh Mahila Medical College, Khanpur Kalan, Sonipat
  • ESIC Medical College, Faridabad
  • Maharshi Dayanand University Medical Unit, Rohtak

These institutions offer excellent facilities and experienced faculty, resulting in intense competition for admission.

Total MBBS Seats in Haryana

Haryana has a total of 2,185 MBBS seats, with:

  • 835 seats in government colleges
  • 1350 seats in private medical colleges

Admission to all these seats will be based on NEET UG scores. The seat allocation process in both government and private colleges will be entirely through counseling.

Distribution of All India and State Quota

15% of the total seats in government medical colleges across all states, including Haryana, are filled under the All India Quota (AIQ), with counseling conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC). The remaining 85% of the seats are filled under the state quota, managed by the state medical counseling authority.

Therefore, Haryana resident candidates can benefit from a larger number of seats under the state quota, provided their score is suitable.

Required Score for Admission to Government Medical Colleges

Experts predict a relatively high cutoff this year. However, the state quota cutoff is generally lower, especially in the final rounds of counseling. Estimates suggest:

  • General category students might secure a government seat with scores as low as 527 by the fourth round.
  • Students scoring above 550 have a b chance of securing a government medical college seat under the state quota.
  • The All India Quota cutoff for the general category is expected to be around 615-630.

However, these figures are estimates, and the final cutoff will be determined by the Medical Counseling Committee and the state government.
