Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has ordered a full occupation of Gaza and the elimination of Hamas. This has stalled ceasefire negotiations and deepened the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Gaza Control Order: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the complete control of Gaza and the destruction of Hamas's military infrastructure. This decision comes at a time when potential ceasefire talks with Hamas were in their final stages. Netanyahu's decision has jeopardized the peace process.
Military Operation Began in April 2025
Netanyahu had ordered the Israeli army's prestigious Golani Brigade in April 2025 to eliminate the remaining Hamas bholds in key areas of Gaza – Rafah, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahia. This operation has now reached a crucial turning point.
Special Role of the Golani Brigade
The Golani Brigade has been tasked with eliminating Hamas's weapons, tunnels, and strategic locations. The Israeli army claims that it now controls approximately 70 percent of Gaza. The brigade recently destroyed several major terrorist hideouts and recovered a large number of weapons.
Gaza Occupation Strategy Approved
According to Israeli media reports, the plan for the full occupation of Gaza has also been approved by Netanyahu's cabinet. Ministers have also confirmed that the Prime Minister has used words like 'occupation of Gaza' in private discussions. This indicates that Netanyahu is in favor of completely eliminating Hamas's political and military presence in Gaza.
Priority of Gaza's Demilitarization
Netanyahu has made it clear that his goal is the complete demilitarization of Gaza and the total elimination of Hamas. This includes not only eliminating weapons but also ending Hamas's rule.
Crisis on Ceasefire Talks
Negotiations between Hamas and Israel were underway in May 2025 for a 70-day ceasefire, initiated by US mediator Steve Vitcoff. In exchange, Hamas was to release 10 hostages. But Netanyahu rejected this proposal. He said that a ceasefire is only possible if Hamas lays down its arms and relinquishes control of Gaza.
Hamas's Response and Escalating Tensions
Hamas rejected Netanyahu's condition. They say they will not give up their weapons. Due to this disagreement, no effective ceasefire agreement has been reached since March 2025. Despite mediation efforts by countries like the US, Egypt, and Qatar, peace talks have repeatedly broken down.
Hamas's Weapons and Tunnels
Israel claims that Hamas has hidden a large number of weapons in Gaza's tunnels. These include rockets from Iran, crude rocket technology, and other deadly materials. The Israeli army says that Hamas uses these weapons by using civilians as shields, which further complicates the war situation.
Israel believes that Hamas continuously receives military training, financial aid, and weapons from Iran, Hezbollah, and Qatar. This makes it difficult to establish lasting peace in Gaza. In Israel's view, this support is the root of the conflict.
