Chasing a low score, the New Zealand team took control of the match from the very first session. Openers Devon Conway and Will Young put on a partnership of 162 runs for the first wicket, which completely pushed the Zimbabwe bowlers on the backfoot. Trevor Gwandu broke this big partnership. He bowled Will Young, who scored 74 runs off 101 balls and hit 11 fours in his innings. Devon Conway returned unbeaten on 79 runs and Jacob Duffy on 8 runs by the end of the day's play.
