In Palamu, Jharkhand, a newborn was sold for 50,000 rupees due to a lack of medical treatment. Following the circulation of the news on social media, the administration took action, and the child was safely returned to their parents.
Palamu: A shocking incident has emerged from the Palamu district of Jharkhand. A woman, Pinki Devi, was compelled to sell her newborn son due to the pressing need for medical treatment for a severe illness. The family lacked sufficient funds for the treatment of a lump in Pinki Devi's breast and also struggled to meet their daily needs.
Through a broker, Pinki handed over her newborn to a childless couple from Latehar for 50,000 rupees. The news of this transaction caused an uproar in the entire region, with people demanding immediate action from the administration.
Administration Alerted by Viral Social Media Video
Upon the spread of this incident on social media, the Jharkhand government and administration sprang into action. Chief Minister Hemant Soren took cognizance of the matter and directed the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police to take immediate action.
Following the Chief Minister's orders, the district administration took swift action on Sunday, successfully rescuing the newborn child. The administration also provided support to Pinki Devi and her husband, Ramchandra Ram, and oversaw the entire case.
Child Safely Rescued and Returned to Parents
A team comprising police from Lesliganj police station and district administration officials safely rescued the child. The baby was then handed over to its parents in the presence of a deputed magistrate. Pinki Devi and her husband live with their five children in a shed at Devi Mandap.
There is an atmosphere of joy in the family following the child's return. The administration has assured the family of providing them with rations, food, and other essential aid. This intervention has provided relief to Pinki Devi and her family during their time of crisis.
Pinki Devi's Family Receives Government Aid and Schemes
Pinki Devi's family did not possess documents such as a ration card, Aadhaar card, or job card, which prevented them from availing the benefits of government schemes. The administration has now initiated arrangements to provide this family with the necessary assistance for all these facilities.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that a special package will be provided for the education, health, and daily needs of the family's children. Furthermore, a special plan has been formulated for medical check-ups and the treatment of the breast lump, ensuring that they are not forced into such desperate measures in the future.
