Omar Abdullah: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah visited the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad on Friday. During this visit, he paid tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, offered a Khadi garland to his statue, and symbolically spun the charkha.

Regarding his visit to Sabarmati Ashram, Omar Abdullah wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter):
"My visit to Ahmedabad has now concluded. I feel proud and humbled to have visited Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi at Sabarmati Ashram. His teachings still show us the right path, which we often forget."
Emphasized Gandhi's Idea of Democracy
Sharing one of Gandhi's thoughts, Omar Abdullah wrote, "True democracy cannot be worked by 20 men sitting at the Centre. It has to be worked from below by the people of every village." He said that in the present times, there is a greater need than ever to adopt this idea.
Also Visited the Statue of Unity and Sardar Sarovar Dam
Omar Abdullah's Gujarat visit lasted three days. On the second day of the tour, which began on Wednesday, he also visited the Statue of Unity and the Sardar Sarovar Dam located in the Narmada district. These visits were not just formal; he also interacted with tour operators from Gujarat with the aim of promoting tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Prime Minister Modi Expressed Happiness
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to Omar Abdullah's visit and called it a symbol of unity. He wrote on X:
"From Kashmir to Kevadia! Glad to see Omar Abdullah ji running at Sabarmati Riverfront and visiting the Statue of Unity. This visit conveys a message of unity and will inspire the countrymen to visit different parts of India."
