This was the fifth batch of evacuees under Operation Sindhu. A total of 1,117 Indians have been safely brought back home so far. Fifth Flight From War-Torn Iran Brings Back 290 Indians
Following escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, and subsequent US military action, the situation in Iran has become extremely tense. Amidst this, the Indian government launched ‘Operation Sindhu’ to safely evacuate its citizens. On Saturday night, a special flight under this operation took off from Tehran and landed safely in New Delhi. This flight carried 290 Indian citizens. This was the fifth flight under this operation, bringing the total number of Indians evacuated from Iran to 1,117.
Ministry of External Affairs Confirms, Shares Information on X
Spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, shared information about the mission on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He stated that at 11:30 PM on June 21, 2025, a special flight carrying 290 Indian citizens landed in New Delhi under Operation Sindhu.
According to him, "So far, under Operation Sindhu, a total of 1,117 Indians have been safely brought back from war-affected Iran. It is the government's priority to ensure the safety of every Indian citizen."
“Missiles Were Falling, We Were Very Scared”
Evacuees shared their experiences. One passenger stated they had been stranded in Iran for a week and the situation was dire. They said, "We were extremely scared. Missiles were falling everywhere. But now that I'm back in India, it feels great."
“I Am an MBBS Student, I Thank the Government”
Navid, a second-year MBBS student from Kashmir, who returned from Tehran, said he endured an unbearable week. Navid said, "Every day was spent in fear until I returned to India. The government cared about us, that's the big thing." He expressed deep gratitude for the Indian government's efforts. According to him, Operation Sindhu proved to be a lifeline for hundreds of students like him.
Student From Bihar Says, "The Situation in Tehran Was Extremely Bad"
Another Indian student who returned from Iran, hailing from Siwan district in Bihar, said he had been studying in Iran for the past two years. He said, "The situation in Tehran was deteriorating day by day. Although the situation was slightly better in other cities, fear persisted."
