A youth named Waseem was arrested from Palwal, Haryana, on charges of providing confidential information to Pakistan. He ran a YouTube channel and had been in contact with Pakistani officials via WhatsApp for the past four years.
Palwal: CIA police in Palwal, Haryana, have arrested youth Waseem on charges of providing confidential information to Pakistan. This arrest followed the interrogation of Taufiq, who was apprehended on September 26 on espionage charges. According to the police, Waseem is a resident of Kot village in Hathin sub-division and used to assist at his father's hospital while also running a YouTube channel. Waseem's name has now been added to the sedition case registered at the city police station in connection with Taufiq's case.
Accused's Contact with Pakistan
According to the police, Waseem has relatives in Pakistan. In 2021, Waseem obtained a visa to travel to Pakistan, and during this process, he came into contact with Danish, an officer, and another staff member stationed at the Pakistani embassy.
For the past four years, Waseem had been in constant contact with these officials via WhatsApp. The investigation team found some chats on Waseem's phone, while he had deleted others. With the help of cyber technology, these deleted chats are being recovered to ascertain what sensitive information Waseem sent to Pakistan.
Family's Reaction to Waseem's Arrest
Waseem's family claims he never went to Pakistan and that their son only conducted his personal work. However, the police have taken him on remand from the court, and interrogation is ongoing.
Taufiq had already been produced in court and sent to jail. Waseem's arrest has increased the likelihood of exposing this entire espionage network.
Rising Cases of Pakistani Espionage in Haryana
Waseem's arrest from Palwal indicates that espionage networks working for Pakistan are active in Haryana. Previously, youths have also been arrested from Kaithal, Panipat, Hisar, and Nuh.
Following the unraveling of a case in Punjab, extensive investigations and arrests have been made in Haryana, involving several individuals including Jyoti Malhotra. Officials state that investigations have been expedited to uncover the entire network.
