Patna court frames charges against Lalu Prasad Yadav and family in land for job case

A Patna court has framed charges against Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and members of his family in the ‘land for job’ case. Charges have been framed against Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misa Bharti, sons Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, and daughter Hema Yadav.

The court recorded that, out of a total of 98 accused named in the case, 52 persons have been discharged. Proceedings will continue against the remaining accused, including members of the Lalu Prasad Yadav family, in accordance with law.

The case relates to allegations that during the period from 2004 to 2009, when Lalu Prasad Yadav served as Union Railway Minister, appointments to Group D posts in the Indian Railways were made in exchange for land or other benefits. It is alleged that land and properties were obtained from candidates or their families at concessional rates or as gifts in connection with such appointments.

The investigation in the matter covered multiple years and led to the arraignment of 98 accused, including members of the Yadav family and other individuals. Upon consideration of the material placed on record, the court framed charges against the accused named above and discharged 52 others.

Following the court’s order, political parties in Bihar and at the national level issued responses to the development, with differing views expressed by opposition parties and supporters of Lalu Prasad Yadav.
