Eight people died and four were seriously injured in a collision between a truck and a tempo in Shahjahanpur, Patna. According to reports, all were returning from taking a dip in the Ganges. Police are investigating.
Patna Accident: A horrific road accident in Patna, the capital of Bihar, on Saturday morning snatched away the happiness of several families. In a head-on collision between a speeding truck and a tempo near the Ultratech Cement Factory in the Shahjahanpur police station area, eight people died on the spot, while four others were seriously injured. All the deceased were residents of Malawa village in the Hilsa police station area of Nalanda district and were returning after taking a dip in the Ganges. This accident has plunged the entire area into mourning.
Accident occurred while returning from Ganges Bath
According to reports, on Saturday morning, on the occasion of Bhado Amavasya, the people of Malawa village boarded a tempo and reached Fatuha Ganga Ghat. After taking a dip in the Ganges, they were all returning home. As soon as the tempo reached near the Ultratech Cement Factory, a speeding truck coming from the front collided with the tempo. The collision was so severe that the tempo was completely wrecked and several people died on the spot.
Situation of Chaos
Immediately after the accident, there was chaos at the scene. People were screaming and crying amidst the wreckage of the tempo. There was blood everywhere on the road and many bodies were scattered around. Local people rushed to the spot and tried to pull out the injured. But by then, eight people had already died on the spot. The scene was so horrific that it brought tears to the eyes of the onlookers.
Prompt action by the police administration
As soon as the Shahjahanpur police station received information about the incident, they reached the spot. The police took possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem and admitted the injured to a nearby hospital. Four seriously injured were immediately referred to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), where they are undergoing treatment.
Patna Rural SP Vikram Singh confirmed the accident and said that all the deceased were residents of Hilsa police station area of Nalanda district. He said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the truck was speeding and the driver lost control, causing the accident.
Cause of the accident and eyewitness accounts
According to local people, the truck was moving at a very high speed and suddenly lost control. The driver could not see the auto and there was a direct collision. Eyewitnesses say that there was screaming and crying all around after the collision. The homes of those who were returning after worshiping in the Ganges are now in mourning.
Women also included among the dead
Most of the eight people killed in the road accident were women. Everyone was returning home after worshiping. The house from which the songs of worship were being heard in the morning, now echoes with the sounds of weeping and wailing. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the village and everyone is sad.
The villagers have demanded immediate financial assistance from the district administration and the government to the affected families. They say that this accident has devastated many families. The families of the deceased should get compensation and better facilities for the treatment of the injured.
