Need Arising Due to Pressure on Rajendra Setu
- The Rajendra Setu, already built on the Ganges River, is now in a dilapidated condition.
- Its foundation stone was laid in 1956 by the first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
- It was inaugurated in 1959 by the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
- At that time, the first Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Krishna Singh, was present.
Now, after 66 years, a modern 6-lane bridge has been prepared parallel to this bridge. Due to the increasing pressure of heavy vehicles on Rajendra Setu, there were difficulties in traffic, due to which the construction of a new bridge had become necessary.
PM Modi Had Promised a Special Package
In the year 2015, Prime Minister Modi had announced a special package for Bihar. Under this package, the construction of a new 6-lane bridge between Aunta Ghat and Simaria was included. In 2017, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of this bridge at an event held in Mokama. Now, by inaugurating it in 2025, he will add another important chapter to the development of Bihar.
Administrative preparations are in full swing regarding the Prime Minister's visit. Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena recently inspected the venue in Begusarai. During the inspection, Union Minister Giriraj Singh, MLA Kundan Kumar, Begusarai DM Tushar Singla, and SP Manish, among other officers, were present.
