Prime Minister Modi Meets India’s 2026 Commonwealth Games Medal Winners

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met all Indian medal winners from the 2026 Commonwealth Games. During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi interacted with the athletes and recorded a video with them. While encouraging the players, he delivered a message to the people of the country: “Those who play will flourish.”

During the interaction, Modi praised the athletes for their performances and appealed to citizens to encourage Indian players and promote sports. At the end of the programme, the Prime Minister and the athletes together raised the slogan “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”

During the meeting with the 2026 Commonwealth Games medal winners, athlete Sakshi Chaudhary spoke with Prime Minister Modi. She said that it was a matter of pride for all the athletes who had won medals for the country to get an opportunity to meet the Prime Minister. Sakshi also praised Modi’s conduct, saying that the athletes felt very good after meeting him. She requested the Prime Minister to give a message to the country.

In response, Modi highlighted the importance of sports and said, “Those who play will flourish.” He also appealed to the athletes and citizens to always encourage India.

Indian athletes won a total of 39 medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow. The tally included 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze medals. India’s performance was also noted because some sports in which Indian athletes have traditionally performed bly were not included in this edition. Despite this, the Indian contingent performed across several events and recorded a b presence in the medal standings.

Of India’s 13 gold medals, 7 came in boxing. Indian boxers performed across different weight categories and made a significant contribution to the country’s medal campaign. India also secured medals in other sports, with Indian athletes competing in individual and team events and adding to the tally of silver and bronze medals.

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won a gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, achieving another milestone. She won gold at three consecutive Commonwealth Games. Chanu has long been among India’s leading weightlifters.

The meeting between Prime Minister Modi and the athletes took place after the Indian contingent won 39 medals at the Commonwealth Games. The athletes had the opportunity to share their achievements with the country’s highest political leadership.
