Shillong: A major development has occurred in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. The SIT arrested Silom James, a property dealer from Mahalaxmi Nagar, late Saturday night. Silom is accused not only of assisting the main accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover Raj, but also of playing a crucial role in destroying key evidence related to the murder.
According to the police, Silom not only removed a bag from the crime scene but also disposed of the pistol, cash, clothes, and jewelry it contained. Previously, Silom had appeared before the media claiming he learned about the case from television. However, CCTV footage and call records have proven his statement false.
Crucial Bag Missing from Hirabag Flat; Silom Used a Key to Open the Lock
During the investigation, the SIT discovered that after Raja's murder, Sonam and Raj had hidden a bag in a flat located in Hirabag. This bag contained a country-made pistol, approximately five lakh rupees in cash, some gold jewelry, and other items concealed among clothes. After the arrest of an accused named Akash in Lalitpur on June 8th, Sonam left for Ghazipur, but the bag remained in the flat.
On June 10th, Silom James arrived, used a second key to open the flat, and removed three bags, food items, clothes, and several other important items. His presence was clearly captured on a CCTV camera outside a car showroom.
Strong Evidence Against Silom; Arrest Made in Meghalaya
After examining CCTV footage and call records, the East Khasi Hills police in Shillong arrested Silom. The process of bringing him to Madhya Pradesh has begun. Police state that Silom not only helped the accused hide materials but also remained in contact with them throughout.
A security guard working in the Hirabag building, originally from Guna, is also under investigation. It is believed that Silom handed the flat key to this guard. This guard has gone missing since Silom's arrest and the police are actively searching for him. Additionally, a young man who entered the flat with Silom is also on the police radar. The investigation team may travel to Guna to gather information about him.
Current Status of the Case: Main Accused Sent to Jail
The main accused in this murder case, Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover Raj, were presented before the ADJ court in Meghalaya and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. According to the police, the interrogation of both has been completed. Other accused, Vishal, Anand, and Akash, are also incarcerated in the same jail. The murder of Raja Raghuvanshi has not only shaken the police and administration but has also damaged the image of Shillong, a peaceful and popular tourist destination. Given that there are 20 other female prisoners in the district jail where Sonam is being held, the jail administration has tightened security measures.
