Maharashtra: Following the order by Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in Maharashtra to keep chicken and mutton shops closed on August 15th, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray reacted sharply on Thursday. Thackeray said that the veg-nonveg dispute is completely wrong and the government has no right to decide what the public eats. KDMC cited a 1988 order to justify the ban on sales, while the Hindu Khatik Samaj, the Chicken-Mutton Traders Association, and the Jain community have protested. Thackeray called it an impractical intervention.

Raj Thackeray's Sharp Attack

Following the order by Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in Maharashtra to keep chicken and mutton shops closed on August 15th, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray reacted sharply on Thursday. Thackeray said that this dispute regarding veg and non-veg is completely wrong and the government has no right to decide what people should eat. He stated that this order is an example of the government's impractical and interventionist policy.

KDMC, citing the 1988 order, stated that there is a ban on the sale of mutton and chicken, not on its consumption. Despite this, the Hindu Khatik Samaj and the Chicken-Mutton Traders Association warned of protests against this decision. Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, also termed it unnecessary, seeing the controversy escalate.

Raj Thackeray's Statement on the Pigeon House Controversy

Raj Thackeray also reacted to the Jain community's protest against the recent ban on covering the pigeon house in Dadar and feeding the pigeons. He said that people should abide by the High Court's order, but the government's intention is beyond comprehension. Thackeray questioned why politics has now started in the name of pigeons and it is difficult to predict which other creatures will be included in this debate in the future.

On Wednesday (August 13), Jain Muni Nileshchandra Vijay said that only MNS chief Raj Thackeray can resolve this dispute. The Muni stated that Balasaheb Thackeray's ideals are reflected in Raj Thackeray and requested to meet him.

Political Stir and Potential Action

The BMC imposed a fine for feeding pigeons at the pigeon house, and the Jain community approached the High Court against the dispute. The BMC later said that the ban could be lifted under certain conditions. Raj Thackeray's statement has sparked a new debate on Maharashtra's politics and administrative orders.
