The opposition has expressed anger over the lack of tribute to the children who died in the Jalore school accident in the assembly. On Wednesday, opposition members arrived at the assembly wearing black armbands and protested on the matter.
Jaipur: In the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, the opposition bly protested the absence of a tribute in the house to the children who died in the Jhalawar school accident. Members of opposition parties entered the house wearing black armbands and demanded the resignation of Education Minister Madan Dilawar. During this protest, there was also an uproar over the issue of poisonous water coming into the state's canals from Punjab and smart meters.
Opposition's Protest Over Jhalawar Accident
The opposition alleged that no tribute was paid in the assembly in memory of the children who died in the Jhalawar school accident. In protest, members of the Congress and other opposition parties arrived at the assembly wearing black armbands. Before entering the house, a tribute was paid to the deceased children and flowers were offered at their pictures. Besides, they were saluted by lighting candles.
The opposition leader accused the Education Minister of not showing sensitivity towards the children's deaths and stated that the government did not accord them due respect. Following this, MPs demanded the minister's resignation.
Heated Debate Between Speaker and Leader of Opposition
Opposition MLA Dungaram Gader raised questions related to poisonous water coming into Rajasthan's canals from Punjab. Gader stated that three parts of his questions were removed and the first part was not even shown halfway. On this, Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully also demanded complete answers from the government on the questions.
The Speaker replied that this was done under the rules for limiting questions and that the system could not be challenged. Following this, there was a brief heated debate between the Leader of Opposition and the Speaker in the house. The opposition also protested the irregularities in the installation of smart meters in the assembly. Congress MLA Rohit Bohra raised a question that there are many flaws in the installation of new smart meters. The Energy Minister replied that the decision to install smart meters was taken by the previous Congress government.
On this, opposition members started chanting slogans and walked out of the assembly. During the commotion, there was also a verbal altercation between the ruling party members and opposition members.
