Rajasthan Bans Sale of Non-Veg Food on Religious Holidays, Sparks Political Debate

The Rajasthan government has imposed a complete ban on the sale of mutton, chicken, fish, and eggs on August 28th and September 6th in view of religious festivals. This decision has intensified politics, with the opposition targeting the government.

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has issued an order imposing a complete ban on the sale of mutton, chicken, fish, and eggs throughout the state on August 28th (Paryushan Parv) and September 6th (Anant Chaturdashi) in view of religious festivals. During this period, non-vegetarian shops, hotels-dhabas, slaughterhouses, and even egg-selling carts will remain closed. Notably, this is the first time that the sale of eggs has also been included within the purview of the ban.

The government states that this decision has been taken to respect religious sentiments and maintain social harmony. However, as soon as the order was issued, politics surrounding it has heated up, and the opposition has begun to target the government.

Tikaram Jully Raises Questions on Law and Order

Leader of the Opposition, Tikaram Jully, questioned this decision, stating that incidents of crime, rape, and law and order are constantly increasing in the state, but instead of paying attention to them, the government is issuing such orders.

Jully attacked the Chief Minister and ministers, stating that crime is at its peak in districts like Bharatpur, but instead of improving law and order there, the government is entangled in unnecessary decisions.

BJP Leaders and Jain Community Support the Decision

The government's move has also received support from BJP leaders and the Jain community. Vanita Seth, Mayor of Jodhpur Municipal Corporation South, said that respecting religious sentiments is important, and the order will be strictly enforced. She warned that those who violate it will be dealt with sternly.

Kalpesh Singhvi, President of the Jain Samaj Sanstha, welcomed this decision, stating that the government's order is correct, but the Municipal Corporation, police, and administration will have to be activated to implement it at the ground level. Otherwise, this order will remain limited to paper.

Safi Mohammad Gives Statement on the Sale of Alcohol

Different reactions have emerged from the Muslim community regarding this decision. Safi Mohammad said that if non-vegetarian food is being banned, then the sale of alcohol should also be stopped on occasions like Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi. Meanwhile, Shamim Khan said that this order is biased because it will directly affect the rights of people who eat non-vegetarian food.

Danish Ali Foujdar said that this decision will affect the livelihood of small shopkeepers and street vendors. He questioned that if the government wants to be strict, then the same rules should also be applied to large exporters.

Shopkeepers Upset with Ban on Egg Sales

The dissatisfaction among small business owners and the general public has increased due to the ban on the sale of eggs for the first time. People who eat non-vegetarian food say that it is not right to restrict their personal preferences. At the same time, shopkeepers are worried that the closure of sales during these two days will directly affect their income.
