Jaipur: The Rajasthan State Consumer Redressal Commission has taken a significant step regarding the misleading advertisement of Vimal Pan Masala. The commission has issued notices to Bollywood megastars Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff. Additionally, Vimal Pan Masala company has also been sent a notice. The commission has directed these three actors and the company to appear on October 8, 2025, either in person or through their advocate. This action has been taken based on a complaint filed by Jaipur resident Gajendra Singh.
Questioning the Misleading Claim
Suman Shekhawat, an advocate from the Rajasthan High Court, provided information that the complaint stated the claim of saffron in Vimal Pan Masala and Zarda to be false and misleading to consumers. It is alleged that the price of saffron is approximately Rs 4 lakh per kg, therefore, the claim of saffron in a pan masala product is not only impossible but also deceptive to consumers.
Furthermore, the complaint also states that pan masala is extremely harmful to health, and its promotion can have a negative impact on youth. The social and moral responsibility of artists endorsing such products also increases.
Questions Raised on National Honour
The complaint mentions that artists like Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn, who have been honored with national awards such as the Padma Shri, have a legal and moral responsibility not to promote products that are detrimental to societal welfare. Despite this, it is alleged that they are promoting products like Vimal Pan Masala after receiving crores of rupees, which promotes a social evil.
Gajendra Singh has put forth several significant demands before the commission: an immediate halt to the production and advertisement of Vimal Pan Masala. A recommendation to withdraw national awards from the concerned artists. A financial penalty of Rs 50 lakh on the artists and the company. Through these demands, the complainant's objective is not just legal action but also to create awareness in society.
