Rajasthan Monsoon Claims 193 Lives, 13 Deaths Linked to Social Media Reel Attempts

Heavy monsoon rains in Rajasthan have caused 193 deaths so far, with 13 lives lost while creating social media reels. Minister Kirodi Meena assured compensation and relief to the families of the affected.

Jaipur: This year's monsoon rains in Rajasthan have broken records. Due to heavy rainfall and floods, 193 people have lost their lives so far. Of these, 13 individuals drowned while filming risky social media reels. The state's Agriculture and Disaster Relief Minister, Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena, shared these disaster figures on Monday and assured compensation for the families of the deceased.

The minister stated that it is his duty in disaster relief to personally visit the affected areas and assist those impacted. Sharing his experiences, he remarked that disaster relief work for him is not just a responsibility but a duty towards society.

Heavy Rainfall and Loss of Life in Recent Monsoon

Dr. Kirodi Meena informed that heavy rainfall has occurred in various districts of the state during the recent monsoon. A total of 193 people have lost their lives due to drowning, lightning strikes, and other natural calamities. The most concerning aspect is that some deaths have occurred due to unusual reasons, such as while creating social media reels.

He appealed to the public to stay away from risky activities. The minister said, "Our objective is to ensure people's lives are safe during any disaster and that they receive timely relief. We need to learn lessons from such incidents."

Minister Dr. Kirodi's Disaster Inspection

Dr. Kirodi stated that as a minister, it is his duty to visit affected areas during floods or natural disasters. Whether it's the threat of lightning or house collapses, the minister personally reaches the spot and inspects relief efforts.

He also mentioned that he served as the Disaster Relief Minister between 2003 and 2008 during the tenure of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Now, after two decades, he has been entrusted with this responsibility again. He humorously commented that perhaps his past record led to him being assigned this department.

Assurance of Compensation to Families of Deceased

The minister assured compensation from the government to the families of the deceased. He said that Rajasthan has a double-engine government and there will be no shortage of resources for disaster relief. "The families of the deceased will receive appropriate compensation, and every affected person will be provided with relief."

Dr. Meena added that his years of experience in disaster relief work have been continuously helpful. He stated that arrangements for relief camps, food, medical assistance, and rescue teams are being ensured in every district.

Minister Shares Experience of Assisting in Past Disaster

In his address, Dr. Kirodi shared an old anecdote. He recounted an incident where, while traveling to Sawai Madhopur, he learned about a lightning strike in Lalsot that resulted in the death of a man and his two goats, leaving his wife helpless. He then called the then Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to request assistance. Immediate orders were issued, and the woman received financial aid of Rs 50,000. The minister said that he still remembers this incident and is grateful to the former Chief Minister for it.
