Rajya Sabha Adjourned Amid Uproar; 'Operation Sindoor' Debate Set for Tuesday

Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned on Monday due to opposition uproar. A 16-hour long discussion on Operation Sindoor will now take place on Tuesday, in which the Defence Minister, Foreign Minister, and Prime Minister may also participate.

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha could not debate 'Operation Sindoor' on Monday. The House proceedings were disrupted several times from the morning. Opposition parties, especially members of the Congress, raised slogans regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar. The opposition did not allow the proceedings to continue, chanting slogans such as "Stop vote theft." Due to this, the House was adjourned for the day.

16-Hour Discussion to be Held on Tuesday

The Rajya Sabha will now discuss 'Operation Sindoor' on Tuesday. According to parliamentary sources, 16 hours have been allocated for this discussion. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, and possibly Prime Minister Narendra Modi may participate in this debate. The Prime Minister's intervention on this issue is considered politically and strategically significant.

Congress to Get Two Hours for Debate

According to parliamentary traditions, the main opposition party, Congress, will be given approximately two hours for this debate. Mallikarjun Kharge will initiate the debate on behalf of the party. The Congress may question the government's strategy and transparency regarding this operation. In this case, this debate will not be limited to military action, but political implications associated with it will also come to the fore.

Rajnath Singh Addressed the House

While proceedings were disrupted in the Rajya Sabha, the debate on 'Operation Sindoor' had already begun in the Lok Sabha. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh initiated the debate and praised the role of the Indian Army. He said that this operation is not just a military action, but a "decisive and effective demonstration" of India's policy against terrorism.

In his speech, Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice while defending the country. He said, "I thank those brave soldiers on behalf of the Parliament who are always ready to protect the country in every situation."

Objective of 'Operation Sindoor' Clarified

The Defence Minister clarified that the objective of Operation Sindoor was not to occupy any territory, but to destroy terrorist hideouts supported by Pakistan. The Indian Armed Forces carried out this operation on May 6 and 7, which the government is now presenting as a historic action. He said, "This demonstrates India's sovereignty, its identity, and our responsibility towards the citizens of the country."

Rahul Gandhi's Question and Stir in the Lok Sabha

Earlier on Monday, there was also a stir in the Lok Sabha during the discussion when Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi suddenly stood up and asked the question—"Why did you stop the operation?" Answering this question, Rajnath Singh said that India stopped the operation when Pakistan itself requested a ceasefire, and India had already achieved all its military objectives.

He further stated that the Indian Air Force had destroyed several Pakistani airfields, after which Pakistani military officials contacted the Indian DGMO requesting to stop the action.
