MP Ram Gopal Yadav termed Trump's tariff policy arbitrary, saying that the next election in America will bring about the defeat of the Republicans, which will stop this arbitrariness.
Ram Gopal: The decision by US President Donald Trump to double the import duty (tariff) on India to 50 percent has created a stir in international trade circles and has also triggered a wave of political reactions in India. Samajwadi Party's senior MP Ram Gopal Yadav has reacted sharply to this decision and suggested that India and other countries should prepare a strategic response against this "arbitrariness" of Trump.
Sharp Attack on America's Tariff Politics
Ram Gopal Yadav stated in clear terms that Trump's policies are destabilizing not only India but also the global economic system. He alleged that America is forcibly putting trade pressure on other countries for its own benefit, and this is harming the economy of the entire world. He said, "Trump's tariff decision is not just a unilateral trade decision, but a kind of economic war. It will affect not only developing countries like India but also many smaller countries."
Why was 50% Tariff Imposed on India?
The Trump administration says that the growing oil trade between India and Russia is causing economic and strategic losses to America. Due to this, Trump has first implemented a 25% and now a 50% tariff. The American President has even said that the economies of India and Russia are in a state of 'dead economy', which are now dependent on America. Ram Gopal Yadav retorted to this by saying that 'Trump himself is lowering America's reputation on the international stage. India will not change its foreign policy under anyone's pressure.'
How will 'Arbitrariness' Stop: Ram Gopal Yadav's Argument
Ram Gopal Yadav said that the only way to stop such policies of Trump is to change the American domestic politics. He said, "The elections for the House of Representatives are going to be held in America next year. If Trump's party, the Republicans, continues such policies, the public will respond to them." According to him, "The defeat of the Republican Party is possible in these elections and after that, Trump's arbitrariness will be curbed."
What is the Way for India?
Ram Gopal Yadav suggested to the Government of India that it will have to make an alternative strategy to overcome this tariff crisis. He said:
- Look for New Markets: India should find new markets in countries other than America to sell its products like clothes, jewelry, and handicrafts. Small countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam are also now sending their goods all over the world.
- Improve Quality: 'India was once the leader of textiles. But the decline in quality has pushed us back. Now it is important that we pay attention to product quality and branding.'
- Diplomatic Channels Should Remain Active: 'The solution will come only through dialogue. India will have to increase cooperation with countries like China, Russia, and explain to America at the diplomatic level.'
Positive Response to the Government's Strategy
Ram Gopal Yadav appreciated the fact that the Government of India has sent National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to Russia and the Prime Minister's visit to China is also a part of this strategy. He said, "It is necessary that India should not leave itself alone on the global stage. A solid economic-diplomatic policy is needed."
Time to Learn from America's Policies
Ram Gopal Yadav said that just responding will not work, now India will have to make a concrete plan with forward thinking. We will have to become self-reliant and find such new trade options, so that we do not come under pressure from powerful countries like America. India should form groups with other countries that can support each other economically.
