Chandigarh: A new controversy has erupted in Punjab's politics these days. Union Minister of State and BJP leader Ravneet Bittu has made serious allegations against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's old comedy shows, claiming that these programs glorified things like drugs, corruption, and bribery in education. He clearly stated that if a BJP government is formed in Punjab in 2027, an investigation into these old shows will definitely be conducted. Ravneet Bittu's statement has sparked a new debate in Punjab's politics.
Ravneet Bittu's Allegation - Corruption and Drug Use Normalized in the Name of Comedy
During a media interaction in Ludhiana, Union Minister Ravneet Bittu said that when Bhagwant Mann was a comedian, he mocked issues like drugs, bribery, and corruption through his popular comedy shows 'Jugnu Kehnda Hai' and 'Jugnu Mast Mast', and indirectly portrayed them as part of common life.
Bittu alleged that those shows repeatedly made references that conveyed the message that "alcohol, bribery, and corruption are commonplace in Punjab." He also claimed that the same views of Bhagwant Mann are still visible in his governance today.
Investigation to be Conducted if Government is Formed in 2027: Ravneet Bittu
Ravneet Bittu clearly stated that "it cannot be a mere coincidence that issues like alcohol, drugs, and bribery were repeatedly glorified in Bhagwant Mann's shows. If a BJP government is formed in Punjab in 2027, a serious investigation will be conducted into these programs and the mindset behind them. Who were involved in them, at whose behest all this was happening, everything will be brought to light."
He said that the person who used to mock education, administration, police, and the government system in the name of comedy is now talking about an education revolution, this double standard has been understood by the people of Punjab.
Attack on the Education Revolution Scheme as well
Ravneet Bittu also questioned the Punjab government's 'Education Revolution Scheme,' saying that how can a person who himself mocked teachers and the education system in his comedy shows show the youth a dream of better education and freedom from drugs? He said that Bhagwant Mann's government's policies are limited to publicity only, and there is no change on the ground.
Ravneet Bittu also alleged that there is a secret understanding between Bhagwant Mann and the Badal family. Both, at different times, allowed the drug mafia and the drug trade to flourish in Punjab. He said, "One did it while in power, the other is doing it now. The difference is only in the faces, the intention remains the same. According to Bittu, instead of taking the youth of Punjab away from drugs, the current government is also repeating the same old mistakes.
