Security agencies have been alerted after the discovery of two old cartridges and a suspicious circuit board at the Red Fort ahead of the Independence Day celebrations. Seven police personnel have been suspended due to a failed mock drill, while six Bangladeshi nationals who forcibly entered the premises have also been detained.
Delhi News: Security preparations are in full swing in Delhi for August 15, 2025, but the Red Fort, one of the most sensitive areas of the capital, is currently under scrutiny due to several security lapses. A stir was caused after two dilapidated cartridges and a circuit board were found during a search operation. According to the police, the cartridges were in a damaged condition and have been sent for forensic investigation. Preliminary investigations suggest that the circuit board is part of an old lighting equipment. Following this incident, an FIR has been registered and an investigation has been initiated, while security agencies are on high alert.
Negligence in Mock Drill
A serious flaw has emerged in the mock drill conducted to check security arrangements ahead of Independence Day. A team from the Delhi Police's Special Staff, carrying dummy bombs in plain clothes, reached the Red Fort complex, but the personnel on duty were unaware of it. Considering the seriousness of the incident, seven police personnel, including a head constable, have been immediately suspended. Meanwhile, senior officials have issued strict instructions to the remaining security personnel to increase vigilance and keep a close watch on every activity.
Six Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested
Meanwhile, another major incident from a security point of view came to light when six Bangladeshi nationals were arrested for attempting to enter the Red Fort premises illegally. All those apprehended are between 20 and 25 years of age and were found to be working as laborers in different parts of Delhi. The police are interrogating them in custody and their background is also being investigated.
