Rourkela: A major rail accident occurred in Rourkela city of Odisha on Friday when eight wagons of a goods train derailed within the premises of a private factory. Although there was no loss of life in this incident, a chaotic atmosphere ensued after the event. Currently, railway employees are working to restore the track, and relief work is underway.
Accident on a Private Track, No Casualties
The accident took place on a track located within the premises of a private industry in the Birmitrapur area of Rourkela. According to information, the goods train was carrying limestone from Birmitrapur to the BSL company. As the train was entering the private premises, eight wagons suddenly derailed. It was fortunate that the train was carrying goods and there were no passengers, so there was no threat to anyone's life.
Panic from the Loud Noise, Crowd Gathers
The accident happened when the goods train was moving slowly on the track. Suddenly, with a loud noise, the wagons derailed, causing a loud explosion-like sound in the area. People around were frightened and gathered in large numbers at the spot. However, the local police and factory administration immediately took charge to handle the situation and controlled the crowd.
Quick Action by the Railway Department
Upon receiving information about the incident, the railway department's rescue team reached the spot and began repair work. The employees first started trying to remove the bogies so that the track could be cleared. Simultaneously, railway officials are also investigating the actual cause of the accident – technical fault, track condition, or any error in loading. A railway official said, "Since the accident happened not on the main railway track but on a private industry's track, major rail services are running normally and there is no impact on passenger trains."
Administration Engaged in Investigation
After the accident, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the local administration have jointly started an investigation. According to railway sources, it is still difficult to say what the exact cause of the derailment was, but every aspect is being thoroughly investigated. Technical analysis is underway on all points, including the condition of the train wagons, the condition of the track, the weight of the goods, and the brake system.
Busy Industrial Complex
The factory complex in Birmitrapur where the accident occurred is known for limestone loading and unloading. Dozens of goods trains come and go here every day. Because of this, this area remains busy in terms of freight transport. Due to this very busyness, the possibility of ignoring safety standards is also being brought under investigation.
Concern Among Local People
Although no one was injured in the incident, local people are concerned about safety standards in the future. Many people raised questions that if any other activity was going on on this track or if any worker was at that place, a major accident could have happened. People demand that the factory management and the railway department make concrete arrangements to avoid such incidents in the future.
