Initial reports indicated the first quake as 6.2, which was later revised to 6.6.
Earthquake Depth
The tremors were felt at depths of approximately 10 to 20 kilometers below the surface. The first two tremors had roughly similar intensities and epicenter depths, while the third and most powerful tremor had its epicenter approximately 20 kilometers below.
Tsunami Alert Issued
The earthquake's impact raises the possibility of a tsunami in the Pacific Ocean. The Hawaiian Islands in the United States, in particular, have been alerted to the threat. However, no reports of casualties or property damage have been received so far. Local authorities have been put on alert and monitoring of coastlines has been increased.
