Samajwadi Party's senior leader Azam Khan is being released from Sitapur Jail after nearly 23 months. His release was paved the way for after he was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court in the Quality Bar case on Thursday, May 18.
Lucknow: The wait for the release of Samajwadi Party's senior leader and Uttar Pradesh political veteran, Azam Khan, is finally coming to an end. After spending nearly 23 months in jail, he will walk out of Sitapur Jail today. However, there is a slight delay in his release. According to sources, he will only be able to leave the jail after court-related paperwork and some formalities are completed.
On Thursday, May 18, the Allahabad High Court granted bail to Azam Khan in the Quality Bar case. Following this, his path to release became clear. Since Friday morning, a large crowd of Samajwadi Party workers began gathering outside Sitapur Jail. Everyone is eager to catch a glimpse of their leader.
Why the Delay in Release?
According to information from sources, Azam Khan's release will only be possible after 10 AM. The reason for this is that the payment of two fines is still pending, which can only be made after the court opens. Once the court opens and formalities are completed, Azam Khan will be released from jail. It is estimated that he will be released around 10:30 AM.
The atmosphere outside Sitapur Jail resembles nothing less than a political rally. Hundreds of Samajwadi Party workers and supporters have arrived here from different districts. Everyone is eager to give their leader a grand welcome. Party leaders, in conversation with the media, stated that the current government has committed injustice against Azam Khan and has falsely implicated him in cases. They added that this release would prove to be a new chapter not only for Azam Khan but for the entire state.
Azam Khan's Political Future
When journalists asked if Azam Khan might join the BSP, SP leaders completely dismissed it as a rumour. They stated that Azam Khan laid the foundation of the Samajwadi Party and will remain with the party until his last breath. According to them, such rumours are being spread by the opposition merely to create confusion.
Azam Khan's elder son, Adeeb Azam, also arrived at Sitapur Jail to pick him up. Initially, he declined to speak with the media, but later stated that it was a historic day not only for him but for the entire state. He added that the hero of today is his father, Azam Khan, and that his father would himself address the public regarding future matters.
After nearly two years in jail, Azam Khan will now breathe free air. His supporters believe that during this period, several false cases were filed against him, and he was persecuted under political pressure. However, his return could now become a new source of energy for the Samajwadi Party.
