Sports News: Thanks to the lethal bowling of fast bowler Mohammed Shami (5/38) and spinner Shahbaz Ahmed (3/60), Bengal secured a brilliant 141-run victory over Gujarat. On the fourth and final day of the match played at Eden Gardens Stadium on Tuesday, Bengal declared their second innings at 214 for 8 wickets, setting Gujarat a target of 327 runs for victory. Chasing the target, the entire Gujarat team was bowled out for 185 runs.

Bengal Shines Under Shami's Leadership

Bengal declared their second innings at 214/8, setting a formidable target of 327 runs for Gujarat. Chasing the target, the Gujarat team was bowled out for just 185 runs. Fast bowler Mohammed Shami, making a comeback in his vintage style, bagged 5 wickets (5/38), while spinner Shahbaz Ahmed picked up 3 wickets (3/60), breaking the back of Gujarat's batting lineup.

Shami had also taken three wickets in the first innings, playing a decisive role in Bengal's victory with a total of 7 wickets in the entire match. This was Bengal's second consecutive win in the current Ranji season. Shami has already claimed 15 wickets in just two matches this season, bowling 68 overs — a testament to his superb form and fitness.

Shami Says - 'I am ready to play for India again'

After the match, Mohammed Shami stated, "I have worked very hard on my fitness. Every player wants to represent their country, and I am ready to do so again. My focus is solely on staying fit and performing well on the field — the rest depends on the selectors." Recently, selector Ajit Agarkar had mentioned during team selection for the Australia tour that he had not received an update on Shami's fitness. However, Shami's current performance has raised several questions about that statement.

Maharashtra Defeats Chandigarh by 144 Runs

In a Group B encounter, Maharashtra defeated Chandigarh by 144 runs, powered by the brilliant performance of their fast bowlers. Mukesh Choudhary and Ramkrishna Shekhar Ghosh delivered lethal bowling spells for Maharashtra, claiming four wickets each. Chasing a target of 464 runs, the Chandigarh team was bowled out for 319 runs in 94.1 overs.

Although their opening batsman Arjun Azad (168) scored a magnificent century, the remaining batsmen could not steer the team to the target. The precise line and consistent striking ability of Maharashtra's bowlers secured a decisive victory for the team.
