A police operation in Rajasthan’s Sikar district led to the arrest of two accused within 15 minutes after they allegedly snatched a mangalsutra from a woman on a road on Thursday morning.
According to police, two youths arrived on a motorcycle without a number plate and snatched a mangalsutra from a woman walking on the road before fleeing towards Jeenmata. The incident occurred at around 8:30 am near Aravali Veterinary College on the Kochhor–Jeenmata road.
A team from Jeenmata Police Station, which was conducting an area domination drive, encountered the distressed woman and received information about the incident. Acting immediately, police set up checkpoints and launched a search operation, leading to the arrest of both accused within a short time.
The victim, identified as Sharmila Devi, stated that she was walking when two youths on a motorcycle without a number plate approached her, snatched her mangalsutra, and fled towards Jeenmata.
Police identified the accused as Vimal Saini (26), son of Pemaram, and Krishna Sain (19), son of Mahesh, both residents of Dhod. The police recovered the stolen mangalsutra, valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh, and the motorcycle used in the crime from their possession. The accused were apprehended from the Rupgarh area.
Police are currently questioning the accused to determine whether they were involved in similar incidents previously. Investigation into the case is ongoing.
Station House Officer Rakesh Kumar Meena stated that the arrests were made possible due to the ongoing area domination drive, under which police are conducting regular patrols and verifying suspicious individuals in sensitive areas.
In a separate development, Sikar Superintendent of Police Praveen Nayak Noonawat has placed Dadia police station in-charge Buddhiprasad on line duty. The official reason for the action has not been disclosed, though sources indicated it may be linked to an action under “Operation Anti Venom” conducted by the Range IG team.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Women have been advised to avoid walking alone on isolated routes and not to display valuable jewellery openly. Police stated that prompt reporting helps in quicker apprehension of offenders.
