The results of the Swachh Bharat Survey 2024 have been released, and this time too, Indore has created history by achieving the honor of becoming the cleanest city in the country for the eighth consecutive time. Indore has achieved this position alone this time, while last year it shared this title with Surat. This time, Surat in Gujarat came second and Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra came third. These results of the cleanliness survey were announced today at a function in Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi, in which representatives from all over the country participated.
Categories Divided on the Basis of Population This Time
This year, to make the survey more comprehensive and competitive, the cities were divided into five categories based on their population. This included cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs, 3 to 10 lakhs, 50 thousand to 3 lakhs, 20 to 50 thousand and less than 20 thousand. Under this model, cities of all sizes got an opportunity to perform in their respective categories. These cities were evaluated on parameters like citizen participation, solid waste management, condition of toilets, awareness programs and cleanliness arrangements.
Indore Retains the Crown
To receive this historic achievement for Indore, Municipal Corporation Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava and Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya reached New Delhi, where President Draupadi Murmu honored them. After receiving the award, Kailash Vijayvargiya expressed his happiness on social media and wrote, Super Swachh Indore, this is a different era! Honored to receive the award from the President. This victory is the result of the participation of every citizen. He also informed that Madhya Pradesh has also received many awards in other categories.
Noida and New Delhi Also Showed Their Strength
In the category of cities with a population of three to ten lakhs, Noida in Uttar Pradesh was at the top for the first time. Chandigarh stood second, Mysore third, Ujjain fourth, Gandhinagar fifth and Guntur sixth. Noida's first place in this list is an indication that the cities of North India are also meeting the standards of cleanliness.
At the same time, New Delhi won in the category of cities with a population of 50 thousand to 3 lakhs. In this category, Tirupati secured the second position, Ambikapur the third and Lonavala the fourth position. This performance of the capital is the result of citizen participation and planned waste management.
Big Success of Small Cities
In the category of population from 20 to 50 thousand, Vita in Maharashtra was first, Saswad second, Deolani Parwara third and Dungarpur fourth. At the same time, in the category of cities with a population of less than 20 thousand, Panchgani was first, Patan second, Panhala third, Vishrampur fourth and Budhni secured the fifth position. These small cities have shown that despite the limitations of resources, excellent cleanliness arrangements can be made with b will power and proper management.
The Impact of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is Clearly Visible
Within a decade of the launch of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, its positive results are being seen across the country. Whether it is big cities or small towns - awareness about cleanliness has increased everywhere. This time's results show that cities have not only followed the government guidelines, but common citizens have also participated actively in it. This is the reason why cities like Indore have consistently remained at the top and now cities in other parts of the country are also matching them.
