Tata Capital lock-in expiry releases 2.858 billion shares worth ₹93,742 crore for trading

The six-month lock-in period for Tata Capital ends on April 13, 2026, unlocking approximately 2.858 billion shares valued at ₹93,742 crore for trading. Analysts maintain Buy ratings with targets up to ₹410, while similar expiries for other companies add to market caution.

The six-month lock-in period for approximately 2.858 billion shares of Tata Capital is ending on April 13, 2026, making these shares eligible for trading in the open market. The total market value of these shares is estimated at ₹93,742 crore, marking a significant development in the Indian equity market.

The expiry of the lock-in period does not imply that all shareholders will immediately sell their holdings. It indicates that shares previously restricted are now available for trading. Typically, an increase in supply following such expiries may exert pressure on stock prices, depending on investor behaviour and prevailing market sentiment.

As of Friday’s closing price, Tata Capital’s stock was trading around 0.6% above its issue price of ₹326, indicating relatively stable performance without significant volatility since listing.

According to available reports, seven analysts have maintained a ‘Buy’ rating on the stock. Some analysts have set a price target of up to ₹410 per share, reflecting expectations cited by these sources.

The end of the lock-in period presents two potential outcomes. In the short term, stock prices may decline if large investors choose to offload their holdings. In the long term, price stability or appreciation may occur if investor confidence remains intact and the company’s performance sustains.

Alongside Tata Capital, the lock-in period is also ending for shares of WeWork India, BMW Ventures, Bajaj Housing Finance, and Advance Agrolife. Most of these stocks are currently trading near or below their issue prices, contributing to heightened investor caution.
