Political activity in Bihar has once again intensified. RJD leader and former minister Tej Pratap Yadav has stirred up discussions in political circles by announcing that he will contest the 2025 election from the Mahua assembly seat as an independent candidate. Tej Pratap is currently a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Hasanpur, but he is now preparing to enter the fray from Mahua. This seat is currently held by Mukesh Roshan, also an RJD MLA. Tej Pratap's decision is therefore considered a departure from the party line, raising questions about the RJD's strategy and unity.
Tejashwi Yadav Avoided the Question
When journalists questioned RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav about Tej Pratap's announcement, his response was surprising. During an interaction with the media on Sunday, July 27, 2025, when asked about Tej Pratap's announcement to contest from Mahua as an independent, Tejashwi replied in a lighthearted manner, "How many parties are formed..." and then left without further comment. This evasive response from Tejashwi has led to various speculations in political circles. While some saw the statement as a joke, others considered it a sign of strategic infighting within the party.
Tej Pratap Says - My Aim is to Make Tejashwi the CM
Even though Tej Pratap Yadav is now talking about contesting elections independently, he has stated on numerous public platforms that he wants to make Tejashwi Yadav the Chief Minister. He reiterated this even after being expelled from the party. He has maintained that he harbors no resentment towards Tejashwi. However, his recent statements and decision to contest from Mahua clearly indicate that he now wants to pursue a different path regarding his political role.
Tej Pratap's Activity Increased
Tej Pratap Yadav has also started election preparations. He is constantly touring different areas and interacting with people. On Sunday, he reached Borwara in the Bochahan assembly constituency of Muzaffarpur, where he participated in a public dialogue program. He shared pictures of this program on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote that now is the time to further strengthen the fight for social justice, rights, and complete change in the state.
Tej Pratap Has Won from Mahua Seat Before
The Mahua assembly seat is not new to Tej Pratap Yadav. He entered the Legislative Assembly by winning the 2015 election from this seat on an RJD ticket. However, in the 2020 elections, he contested and won from Hasanpur. Now that he is once again preparing to enter the electoral fray from Mahua, that too as an independent, it is being seen as a direct challenge to the RJD. This time, he is ready to test his political strength without the party symbol, creating an uncomfortable situation for the party leadership.
