A new stir has begun in the politics of Bihar. RJD leader and former minister Tej Pratap Yadav's announcement that he will contest as an independent candidate from the Mahua assembly constituency in 2025 has sparked discussions in political circles. Tej Pratap is currently the MLA from Hasanpur, but he is now preparing to contest the election from Mahua. This seat is currently held by RJD MLA Mukesh Roshan. In such a situation, Tej Pratap's decision is considered to be outside the party line, which raises questions about the RJD's strategy and unity.
Tejashwi Yadav Evades the Question
When journalists asked RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav about Tej Pratap's announcement, his answer was quite surprising. While speaking to the media last Sunday (July 27, 2025), when he was asked about Tej Pratap's announcement to contest as an independent candidate from Mahua, Tejashwi casually replied, "How many parties are formed..." and then left without commenting further. This evasive answer from Tejashwi has sparked various speculations in political circles. While some see this comment as mere jest, others see it as an indication of the strategic tension within the party.
Tej Pratap Said - My Goal is to Make Tejashwi the Chief Minister
Even though Tej Pratap Yadav is now talking about contesting as an independent candidate, he has repeatedly stated publicly that he wants to make Tejashwi Yadav the Chief Minister. He reiterated the same even after being expelled from the party. His statement was that he harbors no resentment towards Tejashwi. However, his recent statements and decision to contest the election from Mahua make it clear that he now wants to move forward on a different path regarding his political role.
Increased Activity of Tej Pratap
Tej Pratap Yadav has also started his election preparations. He is constantly traveling to different areas and meeting people to establish contact. On Sunday, he reached Borwara in the Bochaha assembly constituency of Muzaffarpur, where he participated in a public dialogue program. He shared pictures of this event on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote that now is the time to further strengthen the fight for social justice, rights, and complete change in the state.
Tej Pratap Has Won the Mahua Seat Before
The Mahua assembly seat is not new to Tej Pratap Yadav. He won the election from this seat in 2015 on an RJD ticket and entered the assembly. Although he contested and won the 2020 election from Hasanpur. Now, as he is preparing to enter the electoral arena again from Mahua, that too as an independent candidate, it is being seen as a direct challenge to the RJD. This time, he is ready to test his political strength without the party symbol, which has created an uncomfortable situation for the party leadership.
