Malda TMC leader Abdur Rahim Bakshi threatened BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh with acid for making statements about migrant workers. BJP bly condemned the incident, accusing Trinamool of politics of violence and fear.
West Bengal Politics: The Malda district of West Bengal has become the center of a major political controversy. Here, Trinamool Congress (TMC) district president Abdur Rahim Bakshi has openly threatened BJP MLA and Chief Whip Shankar Ghosh. In his speech, Bakshi stated that if anyone calls Bengal's migrant workers Rohingyas or Bangladeshis, acid will be poured into their mouths. He issued a clear warning, saying – “This is Bengal. Here, we Bengalis will not allow anyone to speak such language.”
Fervent Speech During a Rally
A TMC rally was organized in Malda on Saturday evening. This rally was held in protest against incidents where Bengali-speaking migrant workers were allegedly subjected to atrocities in other states. During this rally, Abdur Rahim Bakshi targeted BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh. Although he did not name him directly, the context was clear.
Bakshi said that BJP leaders repeatedly label migrant workers as Rohingyas and Bangladeshis. He issued a threat, saying – “If this is heard again, I will pour acid into your mouth and silence your voice forever.”
Threats Issued Before Too
This is not the first time that such a statement has come from Abdur Rahim Bakshi. He has threatened opposition parties, especially BJP, CPM, and Congress leaders, before. A few months ago, he had threatened to chop off the hands and legs of opponents. His statement in a politically sensitive district like Malda has once again heated up the atmosphere.
BJP Strongly Condemns Statement
Following Bakshi's controversial statement, the BJP has reacted sharply. BJP leaders have accused the Trinamool Congress of promoting a culture of violence. BJP MP from Malda North, Khagen Murmu, said that this statement clearly shows that the Trinamool is severely desperate ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
The BJP states that the primary role of TMC leaders is to intimidate and threaten opposition activists. Such statements are repeatedly surfacing in Malda, indicating that the Trinamool is trying to politically suppress its opponents.
Call for Social Boycott
In his speech, Abdur Rahim Bakshi not only issued threats but also appealed to the public. He urged the people to tear down BJP flags and socially boycott party leaders. According to him, the BJP is trying to defame the people of Bengal, and the public should respond to this.
Millions of people from Bengal migrate to other states in search of employment. These workers often labor under difficult conditions, and questions have repeatedly been raised about their identity. When BJP leaders referred to them as Rohingyas or Bangladeshis, the issue became extremely sensitive. The Trinamool Congress is framing this as a matter of Bengal's identity and pride.
