The United States and Iran have exchanged fresh warnings amid rising tensions over Tehran’s nuclear programme, regional security issues and sanctions relief negotiations.
US President Donald Trump said the United States would maintain pressure on Iran until Tehran agrees to a “solid deal.” In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “I will deal with them until they make a deal,” and added that “Iran’s hardline leaders will eventually yield.”
The remarks came as talks between Washington and Tehran on issues including Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security and sanctions relief continue to face difficulties.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian indicated that Tehran is considering multiple options to reduce regional tensions, including negotiations conducted “with dignity and strength.” However, longstanding disputes and a lack of trust between the two countries continue to complicate diplomatic engagement.
According to analysts, the security of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear activities and US sanctions remain the main areas of dispute between the two sides.
The renewed tensions have affected global energy markets. Brent crude oil prices rose above $104 per barrel, while US WTI crude traded near $98 per barrel.
Analysts said any further escalation could disrupt oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy transit route, and deepen concerns over global energy security.
In response to rising prices, the United States announced the release of 53.3 million barrels of crude oil from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The oil will be provided to energy companies as loans to help stabilise market supply.

The measure comes as global markets continue to face pressure from conflict-related disruptions and supply concerns.
Australia also announced new sanctions targeting Iran, imposing financial and travel restrictions on seven individuals and four entities.
According to Australia’s foreign minister, the sanctions were linked to allegations concerning human rights violations, suppression of protests and activities contributing to regional instability. Iran’s shadow banking network was also included under the sanctions measures.
Trump further criticised the Iranian leadership, accusing Tehran of repeatedly changing negotiation terms and deliberately prolonging the process. He described Iran’s peace proposal as “garbage” and said the United States now seeks “total victory.”
International media reports said the Trump administration is also considering possible military action against Iran. However, divisions reportedly remain within the administration, with some officials supporting continued negotiations and others favouring a tougher military approach.
The Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of tensions between Iran and Western countries. Iran has warned that any foreign military activity in the region would receive a b response.
The regional security situation has also become more sensitive amid escalating conflict involving Israel and Hezbollah.
