Tulsi Vivah is usually performed with great reverence in the courtyard, terrace, or balcony of the house. According to scriptures, Lord Vishnu goes into yogic sleep in Ksheer Sagar from Devashayani Ekadashi of Ashadh month and awakens on Dev Uthani Ekadashi of Kartik month. The Tulsi Vivah is solemnized on the Dwadashi Tithi, the day after His awakening. It is believed that this brings the blessings of Lord Vishnu and peace to the home. How to perform Tulsi Vivah puja?
Before starting the puja, the house is thoroughly cleaned, and the Tulsi plant is established in a sacred place. Goddess Tulsi is adorned with red or yellow clothes, kumkum, flowers, and turmeric-choora. A statue of Lord Vishnu or Shaligram is placed to the left of Tulsi, and water, vermilion, unbroken rice grains, flowers, and sweets are offered to Tulsi. During the puja, offering items of adornment for a married woman, such as bangles, bindi, and a dupatta, to Tulsi is considered essential. Finally, an Aarti is performed, and Prasad is distributed.
