The encounter lasted for several hours. A senior police official stated that Naxalites from the Gatta LOS (Local Organization Squad) were active in the area and opened fire on the police.

Operation Launched Based on Information

Police received information that Naxalites from Gatta LOS had set up camp in the forests around Modaske village. Based on this intelligence, Aheri police immediately launched a search operation in the area. Five units of the C-60 team were deployed to the scene. The official explained that the operation was conducted with utmost caution and strategy to ensure no harm came to any civilians.

Prolonged Encounter in the Forest

During the search operation, the police team spotted the Naxalites in the forest, and when they attempted to apprehend them, the Naxalites opened fire on the police. Security forces retaliated, and the encounter continued for several hours, resulting in the deaths of the two female Naxalites. A senior police official emphasized that this action was taken with the safety of the region and its citizens in mind.

Weapons and Equipment Recovered from the Scene

Following the encounter, police recovered several weapons from the scene, including an automatic AK-47 rifle, a pistol, and other equipment. This action is a significant step towards weakening Naxalite activities in Gadchiroli.

The Threat of Female Naxalites

The Gadchiroli district is considered a Naxal-affected region in Maharashtra, where Naxalites have posed a challenge to the police and security forces for many years. Female Naxalites are an integral part of this network and are involved in armed activities in their territories. According to officials, the participation of female Naxalites not only strengthens the organization but also makes police operations more challenging.

Preparedness of Security Forces

Aheri police and the C-60 unit participated in this operation with full preparedness. Officials created a map of the area and ensured that no civilian would be harmed. During the encounter, security forces employed commando tactics and identified Naxalites ambushing in the forest.

Ongoing Search in the Area

The police search operation is still in progress. An official indicated that there is information about the presence of other Naxalites in the area, and action is being taken against them. Police have also sought cooperation from local residents to prevent any Naxalite activities. Security forces are conducting regular patrols in the area and gathering intelligence through covert channels.
