Four children drowned in a mine in the Dabok police station area of Udaipur while bathing. The deceased were between 12 and 14 years old. The families demanded action against the mine owner and refused to accept the bodies. The police have started investigating the incident and are trying to complete the post-mortem process.
Udaipur: A tragic accident shook the entire area in Udaipur district of Rajasthan on Sunday. Four minor children who went to bathe in a mine in the Dabok police station area drowned and died. The deceased children have been identified as Laxmi Gameti (14), Bhavesh (14), Rahul (12) and Shankar (13). Mourning engulfed the village after the accident and the family members are demanding action against the mine owner.
According to the police, the children had gone to graze goats in nearby fields. During this time, they decided to bathe in the mine. The water in the mine was quite deep, and this tragic accident happened as soon as the children got into the water. This incident has created an atmosphere of shock in the entire area.
Bodies of children recovered from the mine with the help of villagers
As soon as the information about the incident was received, a large number of villagers reached the spot and immediately informed the police. The Dabok police station team reached the spot and with the help of the local people, the bodies of the children were recovered from the mine after hours of hard work.
The villagers said that there was mourning in the village after the children drowned. The anger and sorrow of the family members was evident after seeing the bodies. The villagers questioned the negligence of the mine owner and held them responsible for not having safety arrangements.
Families refuse to accept bodies
After the bodies of the children came out, the family members started demanding strict action against the mine owner. They urged the police and administration to take immediate legal action against the culprits in the case.
The angry family members also refused to accept the bodies, which delayed the post-mortem process. Police and administration officials remained engaged in persuading and calming the family members till late at night. The family members say that the negligence of the mine owner is clearly visible in the accident and strict rules should be implemented to prevent such incidents.
Police started investigation
Assistant Police Inspector of Dabok police station, Manohar Singh Deora, said, “The children drowned due to going into deep water. The matter is being investigated and further action will be taken after talking to the family members. We will ensure that such accidents do not happen in future.”
The police also said that a complete report of the accident is being prepared and necessary legal action will be taken against the mine owner. Apart from this, the local administration has directed to pay special attention to the safety and depth of the mines.
