The Yogi government has launched the 'No Helmet, No Fuel' campaign in UP from September 1-30. Two-wheeler riders without helmets will not be given petrol. Police, administration, and the transport department will work together to promote road safety.
UP: In Uttar Pradesh, two-wheeler riders without helmets will now be denied petrol. The Yogi government is conducting a special campaign called 'No Helmet, No Fuel' across the state from September 1st to 30th. The aim of this initiative is to strengthen road safety and encourage people to adopt the habit of wearing helmets.
Why This Campaign Is Necessary
The Yogi government states that this step is not intended to punish anyone, but to save people's lives. Wearing a helmet is the easiest and most effective way to reduce deaths and serious injuries in road accidents. Under Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is mandatory for both the driver and the pillion rider of a two-wheeler to wear a helmet. Furthermore, Section 194D provides for strict penalties for violating this rule.
How the 'No Helmet, No Fuel' Rule Will Be Implemented
The entire campaign will be led by the District Magistrate (DM) and coordinated by the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC). The police, transport department, and administration will be responsible for strict adherence to this rule. Petrol pumps will have clear instructions—no petrol will be dispensed without a helmet.
Oil marketing companies such as IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL have also been asked by the government to cooperate. They state that this initiative is in the public interest and will prove to be a major step towards road safety.
Efforts to Change People's Habits
The Transport Commissioner stated that the purpose of such campaigns is not just to create rules, but to instill the habit of wearing helmets in people. Past experiences show that when essential things like getting petrol are linked to helmets, people adopt this habit quickly. The government believes that this step will help people understand the importance of helmets.
Targeting a Reduction in Road Accidents
Road safety comes not only from rules, but also from people's awareness. Every year, hundreds of people lose their lives in road accidents due to not wearing helmets. The Yogi government wants to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries in road accidents through campaigns like 'No Helmet, No Fuel'.
The Food and Logistics Department will monitor petrol pumps, while the Information and Public Relations Department will widely publicize this campaign so that more and more people connect with it and make wearing a helmet a habit.
Appeal for Public Cooperation
The Yogi government has appealed to the public, oil companies, and petrol pump operators to fully cooperate in this campaign. The government says that if the administration, industry, and citizens work together, the national road safety goals can be achieved.
