US Tariff: Trade tensions between the US and China have escalated once again. Following US President Donald Trump's threat to impose a 100 percent high tariff on Chinese imports, China unequivocally stated that this approach is unacceptable. China outright rejected America's sanctions, declaring it would take necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and national interests.
China advised Washington to improve its attitude and operate based on consensus rather than resorting to threats. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian wrote on social media, "China firmly rejects the recent sanctions imposed by the United States and will take necessary measures to protect its rights."
America's Stance
Trump has attempted to exert pressure on nations worldwide by weaponizing tariffs, yet his threats have not yielded any significant impact so far. Last week, following China's announcement of export restrictions on rare minerals, the US responded with warnings of new sanctions and tariffs. This escalated tensions between the two economic superpowers, threatening to derail months of ongoing negotiations.
A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce stated, "Threatening to impose high tariffs is not the correct approach to negotiations with China. Should the United States persist with unilateral actions, China will resolutely take steps to protect its legitimate rights and interests." The spokesperson added that China's stance on a tariff war is unequivocal: "We do not seek a war, but we are not afraid of one either."
Efforts for Peace Between Both Nations
Despite escalating tensions, US President Donald Trump has made efforts to improve relations with China. He stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping is "highly respected" and that cooperation between the two countries should continue. Trump emphasized that both China and the US seek economic stability for their nations, and neither party intends to cause harm to the other.
Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social, "Don't worry about China, everything will be fine. President Xi Jinping has had a challenging period recently. He does not want a recession in his country, and neither do I. America aims to help China, not to harm it."
The White House also posted on X, stating, "It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such a step, but they have, and the rest is history."
